What counts as an emergency
Some things genuinely cannot wait, and some things can safely wait until morning at the standard rate. We would rather tell you which is which than sell you a call-out you did not need.
Call us straight away
A burst pipe or a leak you cannot stop, water coming through a ceiling, no water at all, a smell of gas (ring the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 first), or no heating or hot water where someone in the house is elderly, unwell or very young.
Usually safe until morning
A dripping tap, a running toilet, one cold radiator, or a boiler fault in mild weather in an otherwise warm house. We will book you in first thing rather than charge you out-of-hours rates for it.
What to do before we arrive
For any escape of water, turn off your internal stopcock — most often under the kitchen sink, sometimes in a downstairs cupboard or near the front door — then open the cold taps to drain the pipes down. It is worth finding out where yours is now rather than at midnight.
If water is anywhere near electrics, switch off at the consumer unit and do not touch anything wet. If you can smell gas, do not use switches or naked flames, open the windows, turn the gas off at the meter if you can reach it safely, and ring the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 before you ring us.

Our emergency line is answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week, by our own team rather than an overnight answering service taking a message for the morning.
Emergency work is charged on the same clear basis as everything else: £95 plus VAT for the first hour, which is always billable, then £47.50 plus VAT per 30 minutes, plus materials. Weekends and bank holidays are charged at double time. You are told this before we set off, so the bill is never the surprise.

What's different about plumbing and heating work in Tonbridge?
Tonbridge is a market town on the River Medway in west Kent, grown up around a crossing of the river below the Norman castle, and a good deal of the town either side of the river sits on the Medway floodplain. Flooding is part of the town's recent history: the Environment Agency lists serious floods in 1968, 2000 and 2013, and over Christmas 2013 the river came over the bank at Avebury Avenue and approximately 80 homes in the Barden Road and Danvers Road area were flooded. The town is protected by the Leigh Flood Storage Area upstream (completed 1982, used 75 times since 1981), a 320 metre defence behind Avebury Avenue built after 2013, and the enlarged Leigh and Hildenborough scheme the Agency opened on 30 September 2026. Housing is mixed: older property near the river and the High Street, with twentieth-century suburbs spreading north and south. No dated breakdown of the housing stock has been verified, so do not state proportions. Tonbridge is supplied by South East Water, which states on its own water hardness page that most of the water it supplies in Southern England comes from underground chalk aquifers and is therefore hard, which can lead to limescale in kettles, boilers and hot water pipes. Hardness varies by supply zone, so anyone who wants their own figure can check their postcode on South East Water's hardness search.
