What does a boiler repair cost?
Repairs are charged at our clear hourly rates — £95* for the first hour (the first hour is always billable), then £47.50* per hour thereafter, plus any parts, and we confirm what those cost before we fit them. You know the rates before we set off, and payment is taken by the engineer on the day. *Prices exclude VAT.
And if a repair isn't worth doing, we'll say so honestly rather than talk you into one — sometimes a new boiler is the better-value answer, and that gets a free fixed quote instead.
How it works
Tell us the symptoms
Error codes, noises, leaks or no heat — a quick call helps us arrive with the right parts on board.
Diagnose and explain
We find the actual fault and explain what is involved — and what it is likely to cost on our clear hourly rates — before touching a spanner.
Fix and safety check
The repair is completed and tested, with a safety check so you know the system is sound.

Faults we are called out to most
No hot water or no heating
Often a diverter valve, a failed pump, an airlock or a controls fault rather than the boiler itself. Diagnosis first — we do not replace parts speculatively and charge you for the guesses.
Pressure dropping repeatedly
A boiler that needs topping up every few days is losing water somewhere. Usually a leaking radiator valve, a weeping joint under a floor, or a failed expansion vessel. Re-pressurising it is a plaster, not a fix.
Fault codes and lockouts
Worcester, Vaillant, Ideal and Glow-worm all report faults differently. Tell us the code when you call and we will usually know what parts to bring before we set off.
Frozen condensate pipe
The classic first-cold-snap breakdown, and often something you can thaw yourself. If you ring us in winter with a boiler that has stopped overnight, we will talk you through checking it before booking a visit you may not need.
Banging, kettling and gurgling
Usually sludge and scale in the system rather than a broken boiler. The fix is treating the system properly, not turning the thermostat down and living with it.
Leaks from the boiler itself
Anything from a loose fitting to a failed heat exchanger. Turn the boiler off, catch what you can, and call us — a slow leak inside a case does expensive damage to the electrics.
Repair or replace?
We will tell you when a repair is not worth doing. If a boiler is well out of warranty, the part is a major one, and the same unit has needed attention more than once, spending several hundred pounds to keep it going another winter is rarely the right call — and we would rather say so than take the repair fee.
Equally, plenty of boilers we are called to are perfectly sound and need one part. There is no commission in this for us either way, so the advice you get is the advice we would give our own family.
What happens on the visit
The engineer diagnoses the fault first and tells you what it will take to fix before carrying on. Common parts are carried on the van, so a good proportion of repairs are done on the first visit. If a part has to be ordered in, you will know the cost and the timescale before we order it.
Repairs are charged at our standard rates — £95 plus VAT for the first hour, which is always billable, then £47.50 plus VAT per hour, plus materials. All our workmanship carries a 90-day guarantee.
