5 Must-Have Features for Your New Bathroom

When it comes to designing and renovating a bathroom, there are certain features that can really make a difference in terms of functionality, convenience, and overall enjoyment of the space. Here are five must-have features to consider for your new bathroom:

Ample storage

No one likes a cluttered bathroom, and having enough storage space can make a huge difference in terms of keeping the space organised and functional. Double sinks

The Feature Nobody Puts on Their List

Extraction. A bathroom without decent ventilation grows mould in the corners, lifts the paint and rots the sealant, however good everything else is. An extractor fan that actually shifts air — and runs on for a few minutes after you leave — will do more for the long-term condition of the room than any finish you choose.

If your current fan is the original one from when the house was built, replacing it is one of the cheapest worthwhile things you can do in a bathroom.

Underfloor Heating and Heated Towel Rails

A heated towel rail is standard now, and worth having. Just be aware that in some rooms it does not put out enough heat to warm the space on its own in midwinter — check the output against the room rather than assuming it replaces a radiator.

Underfloor heating is genuinely lovely in a bathroom and much easier to fit while the floor is up anyway. Retrofitting it later means starting the room again.

Check What Your System Can Deliver

The most common disappointment we are called to is a beautiful new shower that dribbles. Before you choose fittings, find out what pressure and flow your house actually has — a mains-fed combi, an unvented cylinder and a gravity tank in the loft all behave very differently, and each suits different showers.
